Provost Email, powered by Microsoft Exchange & Outlook, allows users within Provost IT-supported departments to access email and calendars. It is currently being decommissioned.

Provost IT is currently in the process of decommissioning remaining mailboxes that are hosted on the Provost Email system. Staff members from Provost IT are working with each department that still has users on the Provost Email system to migrate them to Office 365. If your department has questions about this migration process, please contact us.

Provost Email is used by staff, faculty and some student workers within various Provost IT-supported departments. It provides email services, calendaring functionality and an address book to eligible users. Most email addresses ending in @provost.usc.edu, @research.usc.edu, @stevens.usc.edu, @emeriti.usc.edu and @universityclub.usc.edu are powered by Provost Email.

Provost Email can be accessed online by visiting mail.provost.usc.edu on a desktop or laptop computer. On a mobile device, it can be accessed via the Outlook app or with the instructions listed here.

Retention/Deletion Policies

Beginning in early 2017, Provost mailboxes will be subject to a new email deletion policy. Messages stored in these mailboxes that are older than 16 months old will be automatically deleted unless they are moved to a custom folder. A new policy which prevents automatically forwarding incoming messages to a non-USC account will also be placed into effect at this time. For more information on this policy, click here.
