Office 365 is USC’s centralized email, calendaring and collaboration service. It provides email, document and file sharing, calendar services and generous storage quotas.

Office 365 is used by staff and faculty throughout the university. It provides a unified and modern interface for managing email and other collaboration features, and also has numerous mobile apps to allow you to manage information from your tablet or smartphone.

There are many different ways to access Office 365 from either your computer or mobile device. On your desktop or laptop, you may access Office 365 by going to usc.edu/office365 and signing in with your USCNet ID. On your mobile device, you may download Office 365 apps for accessing email and editing documents by visiting this link.

Clutter Folder

Office 365 mailboxes automatically move emails you might not read into a separate “clutter” folder. This feature is enabled by default but can be disabled by following the instructions here.

If you suspect incoming messages to your Office 365 mailbox are missing, it might be a good idea to check the clutter folder, as well as the junk mail folder.

Retention/Deletion Policies

Beginning in early 2017, Office 365 mailboxes will be subject to a new email deletion policy. Messages stored in Office 365 mailboxes that are older than 16 months old will be automatically deleted unless they are moved to a custom folder. A new policy which prevents automatically forwarding incoming messages to a non-USC account will also be placed into effect at this time. For more information on this policy, click here.

Storage Limits

Office 365 mailboxes come with 25 GB of storage space, which is much more than most staff ever need. The online archive feature of Office 365 comes with unlimited space, and older messages can be moved there for indefinite storage. For more information on this feature, click here.
