Cisco WebEx Plugin Vulnerability Alert

Cisco recently announced that a critical security vulnerability in their WebEx video conferencing software can potentially allow a remote attacker to take control of your computer. The WebEx computer conferencing plugin for all major browsers, including Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, and Internet Explorer, is affected by this vulnerability. Additionally, you do not have to be a host of any meetings to have your computer affected – simply having the plugin installed as a participant in any meetings is enough to make your computer vulnerable.

Cisco has released newer versions of their WebEx plugin for these browsers that addresses this critical security bug. If you have not updated the Cisco WebEx plugin on your computer recently, you are strongly encouraged to check your browser and update the plugin if it is out-of-date. Running an outdated version can expose your computer and its data to significant security risks.

For instructions on checking the plugin and its installed version, visit this Cisco help page or contact Provost IT.
