Welcome to USC!

We’re excited you’ve joined the Trojan Family! As part of your new staff position at the University, you will be supported by USC Provost IT. To get started in your new position, we recommend reading the following page in its entirety to get your accounts activated and familiarize yourself with common information technology procedures and questions.

Account Overview & Activation

As part of your employment within a Provost IT-supported office at USC, you will have two primary accounts: a Provost account and a USCNet ID. The USCNet ID is managed by Information Technology Services, USC’s central IT services division, and is used to access key university systems such as Workday (HR and timekeeping system), Kuali/eMarket (finance/expense systems), the USC VPN (remote access), and Office 365, the university-wide email and collaboration system. Your Provost account is used to login to your desktop and/or laptop computer, Skype for Business (instant messaging), Provost file shares (U: drive and others), and other applicable systems. You will likely use both accounts on a daily basis.

Todo #1

You must activate your USCNet ID with Information Technology Services through this web site – https://netid.usc.edu/account_services/activate_account. As part of this process, you will need your USC ID number, which will be provided to you by your recruiter or onboarding ambassador within the Provost Human Resources office.

Todo #2

Your Provost account is already activated, and the default password to login to it the first time on your desktop or laptop will be provided to you or your supervisor by your recruiter or onboarding ambassador. After logging in for the first time, you will be required to change the default password to a more secure one. We suggest keeping this password different from the one you set for your USCNet ID.

Duo Two-Factor Authentication

All staff members at USC are required to enable two-factor authentication on their USCNet ID accounts. Two-factor authentication is an enhanced security feature which requires you to use a smartphone or other telephone when you login to your USCNet ID account. After the enrollment process in complete, whenever you login to your USCNet ID account, you will be required to accept a notification, text message, or phone call after entering your username and password. The link directly below will guide you through both this enrollment process as well as a sample login to test this process for the first time.

Todo #3

You must enroll in Duo, USC’s two-factor system, at this linkhttps://web-app.usc.edu/web/2fa. You will need either a smartphone (iPhone, Android, Windows Phone) or normal telephone to complete this process.
